A Little Culture with Kids Cartoons!

I came across a site worth sharing...kids cartoons with culture. It's a collection of cartoons from France, Czech Republic, UK, Hungary, Latvia. They were compiled by a women who used to live in Hungary and wanted to recapture her childhood. These fun, simple cartoons were a hit and saving grace for us. With days usually booked with playdates, errands and classes - my little girl wasn't herself recently so we curled up in bed and watched these about 50 times! Her favourite is Dorothy. Check out Bunny TV where it's guilt free TV watching - you're adding culture. Enjoy...

Love that Rocker!

As previously mentioned, I'm in the process of turning my 2 year old daughters room from a nursery to a little girls room. Before she was born, I got a very sad looking rocker that I spent a lot of sleepless nights sitting in with her. I would still like a chair in her room where we can read, cuddle etc but I think it's time for a fun update. Well, I found one! Check out my new rocker that's on it's way. Sleek, stylish, white and they say quite comfy (I know that should be the first point). Here is what it looks like and some inspirational design photos. Enjoy...

Bookshelf, cute striped rug and the rocker - I like that look.

Fun colours

With blankie and a stuffy - perfect

Love the poster!

Obsessing: Over a Plant? Really.

Green thumb? Not quite. I have learned a bit more in the past 3 years about outdoor gardening, when we purchased our first home with a yard, but that time also brought a little babe, so time was limited. As for indoor plants - I honestly don't think I've ever had one. I did get an orchid as a housewarming (that lasted about 3 weeks) but that's about it. Anyway...I'm obsessed with this plant. I must have one. I have the perfect spot for it. I have called numerous gardening shops hunting down this special beauty...a Fiddleleaf Fig Tree! It's tall, it's lean and look at those big dark green leafs (yes, I'm talking about a plant still). I've never obsessed over a plant, but this one has me hooked. It's supposed to be easy to care for (keep you posted on that one). Once this beauty is in my family room will share a pic. What do you think of the Fiddlehead Fig Tree? Enjoy...

I need to find a basket like this one for it.

Can I have this living room along with the plant please.

So perfect.

2 of them together look good as well!

Have I converted you to the Fiddleleaf? Love to hear your thoughts...Enjoy!

Baby Nursery to Little Girls Room

We recently moved to a new home. It's been a fun but slow process personalizing the space to our family. I've come up with the concept - if I can't find the right thing, just leave it until you do. AKA - that means a lot of unfinished rooms! Anyway...my 2 year old daughter's room fits in that category right now. She is still in a crib (which I really don't ever want to end) but I haven't set up her room yet as it seems she is on the cusp of having a big girls room (well, if you know my daughter - she's a little gal who seems to have an old soul!). I'm on the hunt for some inspiration for her room, haven't quite found it yet but did find some cute kid room photos I thought were worth sharing. Enjoy...

I love the little side table

I think all kids love bunk beds

This room has a lot going on, but shelves are on my must have list

What do you think - I want to paint the door and add an "I"

Weekend Re-Cap: Farmers Market in the Desert

I went on a weekend getaway with my mom to Palm Desert. It was 3 days of shopping, shopping and then a little more shopping! With a couple happy hours at Tommy Bahama's thrown in there too. My mom and I  love a good bargain and we covered the area for all DSW shoes, Target, TG Maxx, Marshalls and Macys deals to be had.

One of the best times of this little weekend getaway was the Sunday Farmers Market in old La Quinta. Fresh flowers, fruit, coffee, pastries with 90 degree sunshine...what could be better. So this is what I'm lovin from my weekend (now back to reality). Enjoy...

A great way to start a Sunday

Beautiful flowers in fall colours

Purchased by my mom - Halloween like aren't they

Character buildings and stone streets

Yes - this sign was out for display at 9AM!

My mom and I...

They tasted as good as they look!

Thanks to my mom for such a great trip and chance to spend time together outside of our everyday lives.

My New Obsession - 9 By Design

Have you seen this show? So great. It's about a husband and wife design team out of NYC who have 7 (yes 7!) children and it shows their life, business and quirky personalities. The husband looks like Quentin Tarantino and the wife is a striking resemblance to Nelly Furtado.

I love everything about this show. I love that it's in NYC. I love their sort of outrageous style. I love that they seem like really good parents to all 7 of their kids. I like the glamour, hecticness (is that a word?) and mundane of their life.

I have also posted a few of their interior works below. Their style is sort of out there, but fun, unique and inspiring. Check out 9 By Design. Enjoy...

I like this simple round coffee table

That picture makes a statement!

Love all that white

The "Uniform" - Going out Style

The Dinner Out Ensemble!

In my quest to share things that are fun and appeal to ladies and particularly mom's I thought of a new section called: The Uniform. I have always loved fashion. I have thought about, obsessed about it, purchased way too much, regretted many purchases and have come to the conclusion that the right outfit can make a difference in your day (as shallow as that may sound!). I also have realized that since becoming a mom my time to shop, try on outfits and not to mention body style have all changed.

I read once that Gwyneth Paltrow (whom I love and feel we some how are kindred spirits...I know, keep dreaming) creates a "uniform" that she sticks to and builds upon. What a great idea and approach! As an attempt to follow one of my fashion guru's I'm attempting my own staple of uniforms. The first edition is one that I wore to a family dinner party but thought it was worth sharing. The reason? It's simple, comfortable, feminine and a look I think we can all create and add our own flair too. Not too fancy, not to boring.

Here's the breakdown:

Dress/Tunic: from Paris (really it is, my mom purchased it) but you can also find at H&M (shhh....)
Jeans: Gap (got these on sale for $29.99 in Whistler - great stretch, fit and price)
Necklace: Holt Renfrew (struck a good sale day a couple years back)
Shoes: Seychelles (like the classic 50's style which I heard is back in)

Some additions you could add...a motorcycle jacket, or a simple cardigan, flat boots instead of heals or leggings instead of jeans.

This flowy tunic style is great for camouflaging those "mommy areas!"

To me....this is casual (but still want some style) look for dinners or an evening out. I'll get better with the photography for you too! Enjoy...

Lovin the Landscape!

Lately I seem to be in this mode of finding more and more things that I love and never knew I actually even liked!? One of these such items is Landscape Art. I love the simple look, soothing colours, modern touch and imagination it provokes. Have a look at a few pieces I found...which one do you like?

I'm a sucker for blue these days...

The plum is so striking

Not sure why, but I find this one peaceful

I adore this one, the field, the wind, the colour

Might be my favourite of all...

Bedroom Makeover

Calm, serene with a hint of feminine
I keep thinking of something Oprah has said (well, I think of a lot of things Oprah has said) but this one has to do with your home. She has said that your home should "Rise to Meet you." Took me a bit to get this one but I now really get that if you don't have a place where you feel represents you, relaxes you and you look forward to being at - where else will you find that peace?

So, shouldn't our bedrooms adhere to that philosophy. I think we often neglect that room because it's not one many people see, but you do every day! I'm inspired this fall to add a few touches to my bedroom to make it feel more of a sanctuary. I posted this picture as I really liked the light colour, adds of sparkle, the white bench and mix-matched side tables.

Here is a good little article on some simple tips with sources of things we can do to update our bedrooms. Enjoy...

PS: One little thing I've started doing is adding just a few white roses in my room. I have a love for roses you can see here.

Pancake Picnic!

It was a beautiful fall day yesterday filled with trips to the park and a bike ride. My husband was out last night and my 2 year old and I decided to have a pancake picnic. We made delicious banana pancakes, courtesy of Tamra Davis, and sat out side on a blanket enjoying the last little bit of warm weather.

I encourage you try out this easy and delicious banana pancake recipe from Tamra Davis. I discovered her site a couple years ago and have been hooked ever since. The ease of her cooking, how she incorporates her kids into participation, the delicious food and the cool videos that give a glimpse into her life have me going back for more! Enjoy...
